NBA Member Alert – Support Needed for Bison Health and Truth in Buffalo Labeling

National Bison Association Members!
Summer vacation is in full swing, and the United States Congress has officially started its August recess. That means Members of Congress will be heading to their home states to meet with constituents like you! It’s essential that you, our grassroots base, make one last big push in support of your priority legislation this month. In-district events are a great way to do this, but even if you don’t have one planned with legislators, engage wherever you find them – at summer field days, in your newsletters, on your social media, etc.
While they are home, their staff will be hard at work finalizing a first draft of the farm bill (especially on the Senate side). We have two specific legislative actions we really need your help to promote.
- Continued funding for vital Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCF) vaccine research and vaccine development which is nearing completion.
- Passage of the Truth in Buffalo Labeling Act– distinguishing North American Bison from Water Buffalo and protecting the bison industry from cheap, imported water buffalo.

A delegation of National Bison Association members will be advocating in person in September, so let your legislators know that we’d be happy to follow up in person to further discuss these issues.
