2022 Young Guns Competition Notice

The Young Guns Competition will continue in 2021-2022 with a similar format to previous years. The notable changes are outlined below and are in addition to the already established testing requirements for participation in the class. These changes include; limited entry, strict payment/delivery schedules, a rigid vaccination protocol, and bulls will be brought to Rapid City for showcase in the 2022 Black Hills Buffalo Classic Sale.

A total of 36 Bulls will be accepted into the 2022 Young Guns competition. The deadline for entering the contest is March 18th, 2021. Due to space limitations, entries are initially limited to 2 head per DTBA membership. If space is still available after the March 18th deadline, the remaining spots will be filled by randomly selecting one animal at a time from consigners that are willing to contribute additional bulls until the class is full. Consignors will be notified of additional bulls eligible for entry by March 19th.  Entry fees must be paid in full by each consignor no later than March 18th, 2021 for the original entries, and March 25th, 2021 for any additional entries. No leniency will be given if a consignor’s entry fees are not paid in full the host ranch will not accept the animal.

In addition to the established testing requirements for participation, the following vaccination protocol will be required in order to participate in the 2021 young guns competition. No exceptions will be given.

All animals must be vaccinated on their home ranch with the following vaccines 14-21 days before arrival at the host ranch.  Targeted Working Dates for Testing and Vaccinations should be April 5th – 9th, 2021.

  • Autogenous Mycoplasma B. vaccine of owner’s choice
  • Vision 7 with Somnus
  • Inforce 3 (intra-nasal)
  • OneShot (Modified Live for bacterial pneumonia)

ALL ADMINISTERED VACCINES MUST BE NOTED ON OFFICIAL VET PAPERWORK

All animals must arrive at the host ranch between April 22nd- 24th, 2021 and all entry fees must be paid in full before the animals can be delivered. No exceptions.

After delivery to the host ranch,  consignors animals will be kept separate for 5-10 days and given vaccination boosters before being commingled. The booster vaccination protocol will be as follows:

  • Autogenous Mycoplasma Vaccine (all will get the same, may be different from original shot at home ranch)
  • Vision 7 with Somnus
  • Bovisheild GOLD 5
  • Injectable Wormer
